Barkhatnaya Hill is a extinct volcano 870 meters in height, it is located in the southern part of Kamchatka. The hill is a circle of volcanic peaks situated along the Paratunka River. Several thousand years ago a lava flow was going down one of the slopes of Barkhatnaya Hill, its trace is still visible there.

Barkhatnaya Hill is a popular spot among mountain skiers and snowboarders. They come here not only by snowmobiles, but also by helicopters to ride down from the very top. The descent is quite difficult, because its slopes are blown by winds which creates a hard crust on the surface.

Tour program

Gathering of the participants

We meet at the appointed place and drive to the place where we change to snowmobiles.

08:00

Transfer to Snow Valley mountain resort

12:30

Transfer to Barkhatnaya Hill
Freeride

We get from Snow Valley to Barkhatnaya Hill by snowmobiles and then ride the slopes of the hill for several hours. A snowmobile driver will take you 2 or 3 times uphill to the altitude of 600–800 meters. The descent is hard and quite difficult: pressed icy snow can change into friable drifts, because the hill is vastly blown by the wind. For the same reason avalanches here are extremely rare.

16:30

Return to Snow Valley
Lunch, bathing

The most enjoyable thing after physical activity is relaxing in a hot pool and lunch, of course. There is an equipped pool and heated changing rooms in Snow Valley and lunch with hot meal.

After having some rest we return to the car park.

18:30

Return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
