The Petropavlovsky lighthouse is situated on Cape Mayachny 12 km away from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The history of the lighthouse started with the developing of Kamchatka: it was first mentioned on the maps of 1740. At first it was just a wooden cabin with a bonfire serving as a signal for ships. Later a shelter for the crew was added. In 1850, the lighthouse was called Dalny (Remote), and the cape was named Cape Mayachny (Lighthouse). In 1897 the lighthouse was newly rebuilt using cast iron and renamed into Petropavlovsky. It still looks like that and operates.

From the cape you’ll see the panorama of Avacha bay, domestic volcanoes Avachinsky, Koryaksky and Kozelsky at their finest and rocks Three Brothers — a symbol of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Tour program

Meeting of participants

We meet at the appointed place with the rest of the group, check the gear and drive to Zavoyko Settlement where we change to snowmobiles.

Departure for the Petropavlovsky lighthouse

After safety briefing and snowmobile training we depart for the lighthouse. We drive by bays Small Lagernaya, Middle Lagernaya and Big Lagernaya, which are separated from each other by high rocks. There we can enjoy elegant winter colors: snow-white expanse, blue water and black coastal line of volcanic sand.

Tour around the Petropavlovsky lighthouse

We reach the observation deck “The Edge of the World” at the cape to enjoy the scenery: the panorama of the bay, majestic volcanoes and rocks Three Brothers.

We drive closer to the lighthouse, walk around taking pictures. Our guide will tell about the history of the lighthouse and its role in the formation of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Later we have lunch and admire the view of the endless Pacific.

Return to the car park

By snowmobiles we return to Zavoyko Settlement where we change to cars. We’ll be back in the city by 14:45.
