A multi-day adventure for those who love outdoor activities and are not afraid of frost! The snowmobile part of the program begins in the central part of Kamchatka in Lazo Village and lasts 6 days. The route passes through the territory of the Kronotsky Reserve through the tundra and alpine landscapes. In winter, rich flora of the reserve is hidden under the thick layer of snow, there are only spruces and larches towering above a white cover. But you can meet wild animals: fox, reindeer, wolverine, sable and snow sheep.

We will visit Kipeliye and Tumrokskiye hot springs, drive to the bottom of the active volcano Kizimen, observe the emission of ash, listen to the hum and tremor of the earth at the foot of the volcano.

We will spend the nights in sleeping bags in tourist shelters — huts with stoves. There will be camping meals on the route — tourists cook on their own on stoves or gas cookers. Get ready for the cold, winds and adversity of a winter hike. Those who are ready for challenge will discover the unique Kamchatka nature carefully preserved in the Kronotsky Reserve.

Tour program

Day 1

Meeting at the airport
Hotel check-in

We meet tourists at the airport and drive to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where we check into a hotel. At the organizational meeting we’ll check the equipment and discuss the details of the route.

If you wish, we’ll take you to hot springs for an additional fee or arrange a city tour with a visit to cultural monuments and observation points.

Day 2

Transfer to Lazo Village
Check-in to a tourist shelter

After breakfast we get ready and drive to Lazo. The road is long, about 8 hours, it takes almost the whole day. Upon arrival we’ll check into a tourist shelter, have dinner, and get safety briefing before the upcoming snowmobile trip.

Lazo is a small village in the Milkovsky district with a population of less than 500 people. The village is located in a picturesque place: volcanoes Tolbachik and Kizimen rise nearby, the Kamchatka and Nikolka rivers flow, Tumrokskiye and Kipeliye hot springs emerge. People in Lazo live in log houses and are engaged in household plot, fishing and hunting.

Day 3

Transfer to Kipeliye Hot Springs
through a hunter's hut at the Ipuin River

After breakfast we ride snowmobiles towards the Ipuin River. A road 80 km long will take about 5 hours, so we’ll make stops to relax with hot tea and to take pictures. We drive through the dilapidated volcano Nikolka of 1589 m high, the Bolshaya (Big) Nikolka and Malaya (Small) Nikolka rivers, Nikolsky spruce forests — a dense forest with larches and fir trees, and arrive to the base of the hunting ground on the Ipuin River. Then we drive along the valley of the Levaya (Left) Shchapin River in the direction of Kipeliye Hot Springs with the view of Kizimen Volcano. We are required to register at the house of the inspector of the Kronotsky Reserve and then we can move to the place of overnight stay. We’ll get to the hot springs, have lunch, bathe, relax and spend the night in a house at the cordon of the Kronotsky Reserve.

The Kipeliye springs are two artificial baths made in a travertine dome. The water of the springs is highly carbonated, which makes it seem to be boiling. Hence the name — the Kipeliye (Boiling). In fact, the water temperature is 30–40 degrees celsius and is comfortable for bathing. Just 20 meters from the hot tubs there is a cold narzan with drinking water.

Day 4

Tumrokskiye Hot Springs
Kizimen Volcano

We go by snowmobile to the Tumrok hot springs, located 35 km from Kipelykh. We are accommodated in the Tumrok tourist shelter, have a rest and go on a snowmobile excursion to the Kizimen volcano.

Kizimen is an active volcano with a height of 2375 m. The last eruption began in 2013 and continues to this day! When approaching the volcano, one can feel tremors, roar and the smell of sulfur, and a column of ash stands above the crater. Now it’s not as dangerous to be near the volcano as at the beginning of the eruption, when lava flows were going down the slope.

There we’ll watch the activity of the volcano, take pictures and then return to the hot springs. We’ll bathe, have dinner and spend the night in tourist huts.

Tumrokskiye hot springs are located at the western foot of the Kizimen volcano. They are 4 large and several small gryphons with a temperature of 42–52 °С. The water is considered therapeutic: it contains boron, arsenic, silicon and manganese. The springs are equipped: there are wooden paths and baths, and changing rooms. There are drinking mineral water outlets nearby.

Day 5

Transfer to the shelter Askhachny Dol

We leave the territory of the Kronotsky Reserve and move to the Askhachny Uval on snowmobiles. A view of the Klyuchevskaya group of volcanoes opens from the top of the down about 1000 m high: Ostry Tolbachik and Plosky (Flat) Tolbachik, Bezymyanny, Kamen and Klyuchevskaya Sopka, the highest active volcano in Eurasia. We stop for the night in a shelter at Askhachny Dol.

Day 6

Return to Lazo Village

After breakfast and hit the road back to Lazo Village. The way ahead is long: in 8 hours we will overcome about 100 km. In Lazo we check into a tourist shelter and relax after a long trip. We’ll stay the night there.

Day 7

Return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

We drive the cars from Lazo back to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. We’ll check into a hotel in the evening.
